HESLO — External sling load operations

With short and long line

HESLO qualifications and experience are often required by helicopter operators specialising in construction work or air rescue services. It is also popular with private pilots for personal use or recreation. If you already feel confident flying a helicopter, it's a great time to try flying with a suspended load. It is a real challenge!

Frequently asked

Who needs HESLO qualification?

HESLO is required for work with underslung loads, especially in construction, assembly, cargo transport and air rescue services. It is also useful for private pilots who want to expand their skills.

What is the difference between HESLO 1 and HESLO 2?

HESLO 1 covers operations with a line up to 20 metres, HESLO 2 with a line longer than 20 metres. Each level requires different techniques and a different number of hours, cycles and missions for unsupervised operations.

Can I fly HESLO on my own after the course?

After completing basic training you are authorised to fly HESLO only under instructor supervision. For unsupervised operations you must meet the required number of hours, cycles and HESLO missions in accordance with current regulations.

Which helicopter is used for the training?

Training takes place on modern Guimbal Cabri G2 helicopters, which are forgiving of pilot error, have stable flight characteristics and are well suited for practising sling-load work.

Why train HESLO with us?

HESLO training is run only from September to April.

Affordable helicopter

We fly the modern Guimbal Cabri G2, an ideal machine for sling-load training that also keeps operating costs sensible.

Instructors with thousands of hours

Our selected foreign instructors have extensive sling-load experience. Their underslung-load flight time runs into thousands of hours on construction work, animal transport and aerial firefighting. Much of their professional life has been spent in demanding high-mountain environments.

Own HESLO-equipped fleet

We have 2 helicopters in our own fleet equipped for sling-load operations, so we don't rely on third-party rentals.
