Cost guide · updated 2026

How much does helicopter pilot training cost in the Czech Republic?

A transparent, itemised guide to the real cost of becoming a helicopter pilot on the Guimbal Cabri G2 — from your Class 2 medical to CAA licence issuance. Every figure below is a realistic 2026 range for training in the Czech Republic; your final price depends on how quickly you progress and how efficiently your school bills flight time.

The short answer

PPL(H) — realistic budget (all-in)
CZK 750,000 – 950,000
approx. €30,000 – €38,000

Includes medical, theory, 50–60 flight hours on the Cabri G2, all CAA fees and licence issuance.

CPL(H) — added on top of PPL(H)
CZK 1,800,000 – 2,400,000
approx. €72,000 – €96,000

Class 1 medical, timebuilding to 155 h, 14 ATPL theory subjects, 30 h CPL module and the skill test.

Zero to CPL(H) — combined path
from CZK 2,550,000
approx. €102,000+

Sum of both stages. Actual price depends on your progression speed and English requirement.

The ranges reflect market prices for approved ATOs in the Czech Republic in 2026 and can vary with fuel prices, aircraft type and the school's billing model.

PPL(H) breakdown

Private helicopter pilot — item by item

PPL(H) is the entry licence — it lets you fly a helicopter non-commercially for yourself, family and friends. Legal minimum is 45 flight hours; the realistic average in our school is 50–60 hours, depending on how quickly you master hovering and autorotation.

Class 2 medical certificate
Initial issuance at an authorised AME. Valid 2–5 years depending on age.
CZK 3,500 – 6,000
Theoretical training (9 subjects)
Classroom + self-study. Meteorology, navigation, air law, principles of flight, instruments, performance, human factors, communications, helicopter operations.
CZK 25,000 – 45,000
Flight training — 45 h minimum
Realistic average 50–60 hours on the Guimbal Cabri G2. Billed per actual airborne minute — you don't pay for taxi, run-up or cool-down.
CZK 675,000 – 810,000
9× CAA theory exams
CZK 400 per subject at the Czech CAA (ÚCL).
CZK 3,600
CAA practical skill test
Examiner fee plus aircraft time for the test flight (approx. 1.5 h).
CZK 4,000 – 6,000
Licence issuance (ÚCL)
One-off administrative fee on the CAA fee schedule.
CZK 500
English ICAO 4 (optional)
Not required for the licence itself but needed for international flying.
CZK 4,000 – 6,000

CPL(H) breakdown

Commercial pilot — added on top of PPL(H)

CPL(H) opens the door to paid flying — commercial transport, instructor work and HEMS. You need at least 185 total flight hours to be issued the licence, of which 155 must be logged before starting the CPL module.

Class 1 medical certificate
Extended medical required for commercial flying. Renewed annually.
CZK 5,500 – 9,000
Timebuilding to 155 flight hours
Difference from the 50–60 h you have after PPL(H). Per-minute rental saves you tens of thousands over this phase alone.
CZK 1,300,000 – 1,600,000
ATPL(H)/CPL(H) theory (14 subjects)
Extended theoretical training. Can be done alongside timebuilding.
CZK 60,000 – 120,000
CPL(H) flight module — 30 h dual
Includes 10 h instrument flight and 5 h night flying. Delivered by our senior instructors.
CZK 450,000 – 540,000
14× CAA theory exams
CZK 400 per subject at ÚCL.
CZK 5,600
CAA skill test + licence issuance
Examiner fee, test flight time and the CPL(H) issuance fee.
CZK 5,000 – 7,000
Fair billing

Where the money quietly disappears — and how we bill differently

The single biggest hidden cost in helicopter training isn't fuel or insurance — it's how flight time is measured. Two schools quoting the same hourly rate can differ by 15–20 % on the final invoice.

The 6-minute-block problem

Most schools start the meter the moment the rotor spins and stop it only after full rotor stop. A 45-minute training flight is typically billed as 54–60 minutes.

How we bill

We charge only the time between lift-off and touchdown, to the minute. Taxi, run-up, hover check and cool-down are on us.

What that means over PPL(H)

On a realistic 55-hour course, per-minute billing typically avoids 5–8 hours of overhead you would otherwise pay for. At today's Cabri G2 rate that's roughly CZK 75,000 – 120,000 saved.

Our promise

You receive a written quote before signing anything, we bill per actual airborne minute, and any hours you don't fly are not charged. If you decide to stop training, your completed hours are logged in your student record and remain transferable to another EASA ATO.

Frequently asked

Cost questions we hear the most

Can I pay for training in instalments?

Yes. Because we bill per actual flight minute, you pay only for the lessons you fly — there is no upfront lump sum. Many students top up a training deposit and fly it down as their schedule allows.

Do prices include VAT?

Yes — every figure in this guide is a final all-in price for a private student. Corporate customers who can deduct VAT will see the net figure on the invoice.

Why is helicopter training more expensive than aeroplane training?

Helicopters have higher direct operating costs (turbine or high-performance piston engine, expensive rotor components, more frequent inspections) and a lower student-to-airframe ratio. That is why choosing the most fuel-efficient trainer on the market — the Guimbal Cabri G2 — and a school that bills honestly makes such a big difference.

Can I use my aeroplane PPL(A) hours towards PPL(H)?

Partial credit for theoretical training is possible; flight hours do not transfer between aeroplanes and helicopters. In practice this can shorten your PPL(H) theory phase but you still need the full flight training on rotorcraft.

Do I need to buy a headset or any equipment?

All our helicopters are equipped with state-of-art BOSE headsets, however students may use their own for hygienic reasons.
