Switzerland as the world's classroom of mountain flying

Flying in the Alps brings conditions markedly different from routine operations in Central Europe. Air density, rapid weather changes, strong valley winds, turbulence and landings on slopes and glaciers all demand perfect preparation and precise decision making.

The Swiss MOU(H) (Mountain Qualification) training system is considered one of the most comprehensive in the world. It combines extensive theoretical preparation with intensive practical flying in real mountain conditions, where pilots accumulate hundreds of landings at various altitudes and across diverse types of terrain.

LionHeli among Europe's best

The importance of this training is confirmed by the fact that several instructors — including LionHeli chief pilot Jan Krčil — successfully completed Swiss Mountain Flying Training and earned the MOU(H) qualification, one of the most respected mountain ratings in Europe. The training involved approximately 25 flight hours and more than 200 landings in mountainous terrain, including glaciers above 4,000 metres above sea level. LionHeli's goal is to systematically integrate this new experience into its own training and push the level of student preparation even further.
